Cell Organelles and their Functions
1. Nucleus: Management
Nucleus is the “Brain” that controls and manage all the functions of the cell. It protects or stores the genetic information such as DNA that contains instructions for the production of proteins. It is surrounded by the nuclear envelope. It is the control center of the cell.
2. Ribosome: Workbench
Ribosome are the “Factory” of cell that helps in production of proteins. They are the small structures of RNA and protein and it act as the workbench of the cell. It helps to synthesize protein that is coded instructions given by cell.
3. Golgi apparatus: Processing and Distribution
Golgi apparatus are the stack of membranous saccules that is involved in processing, packaging and distribution of proteins or lipids.
4. Vesicles: Structure and Transport
Vesicles are small membrane-enclosed sacs that help in transport of molecules from place to place, and recycled as required.
5. Cell membrane: Security Fence with Gates.
Cell membrane surrounds the cell that controls the movement of materials to enter and exit the cell.
6. Mitochondria: Powerhouse
Mitochondria is a double membrane structure that can reproduce on its own. It converts chemical energy of food into compounds into eneey through a process called as cellular respiration
7. Lysosomes: Cleanup crew
Lysosomes break lipids, carbohydrates or proteins and it also digest organelles that are not used longer.
