3. Why is standard time necessary for India?

Answer: Standard time is the fixed time for places falling in same meridian. Local time is calculated on the basis of the position of the sun. It changes with change in longitude. For example, there is difference of 1 hour 45 mins in the local time of Assam (north-eastern) and Gujarat (west).

Therefore, to avoid confusion of different local time in the same country, standard time is necessary which is same for the whole country.

4. Briefly describe the different heat zones on the Earth.

ANSWER: Earth is divided in three heat zone- Torrid zone, Temperate zone and Frigid zone.

(d) Arctic Circle: It lies at an angular distance of 661/2  North of the Equator.
