ANSWER: There are four types of movable joints in the human body:
(a) The ball and socket joint: Ball and socket joint is an freely movable joint. It allows maximum movement in all directions as ball-shaped end of one bone fits into the hollow cup-shaped socket of the other bone. Example: shoulder and hip joint.
(b) Hinge joint: Hinge joints allows movement of bones in one direction, that is, up and down or back and forth movement. Example: finger, knees, toes and elbow joints.
