Discovery of Nucleic Acids- Friedrich Miescher, 1869

Miescher used white blood cells as they are main component of pus in infections.

His revealed that nuclei of pus cells contained material that contained nitrogen and phosphorus.

He called that chemical as “nuclein” as it found in nuclei and later known as nucleic acid.
