INTELLIGENCE IS INHERITED FROM MOTHER OR FATHER
The question “INTELLIGENCE IS INHERITED FROM MOTHER OR FATHER” arises in our curious mind. Did you know mothers are mainly responsible for transmitting intelligence genes as intelligence genes are carried on the X chromosome and may be deactivated if they come from the father.
Conditioned genes are kind of genes that allows their origin to be traced and reveals if they are active or not within the descendant cells. These genes work only if they come from the mother and deactivated if inherited from father.
Interestingly, mother’s genes go directly to the cerebral cortex and father’s genes to the limbic system.
Intelligence has an hereditary component and also environmental component. Incase of hereditary component, children are more likely to inherit intelligence from mother as intelligence genes are located on chromosome X and mother have two of these, while father only have one.
According to the studies, conducted in 1984 at the University of Cambridge, leading to the idea that maternal genes responsible for most of the development of the thought centers in the brain.
Researchers found that any cell can appear anywhere in the brain during the first days of embryonic development, but when the embryos mature and grow, cells having paternal genes accumulate in emotional centers of the brain which are hypothalamus, amygdala, the preoptic area and the septum ( part of the limbic system). These areas are responsible for our survival and functions such as sex, food and aggression. But researchers have not found any paternal cells in the cerebral cortex which are responsible for cognitive functions for example intelligence. Genes involved in brain damage are related to cognitive abilities and found in chromosome X.
Children are more likely to inherit intelligence from mother as intelligence genes are located on chromosome X and mother have two of these, while father only have one. As mother’s have two X chromosomes, they are twice as likely to transmit intelligence characteristics.
Intelligence has an hereditary component and also environmental component and is estimated that 40-60% of intelligence is hereditary and remaining depends on environment, stimulation and personal characteristics.
In fact, what we call intelligence is not only to solve problems but also rational thinking function which are influenced by intuition and emotions. This is linked to limbic system that are influenced by the father. Fathers contribute to the development of their children by being emotionally present.
” The intelligence with which child is born is important, but not decisive “….
