What are vitamins?

Vitamins are organic compounds that are not synthesized by the body therefore needed in the diet. They are required for growth, function and development of the body.

13 vitamins are required by the body. They are categorised into fat soluble and water soluble vitamins.

The fat-soluble vitamins are stored in body fatty tissue. There are four fat soluble vitamins which are vutamin A, D, E, and K.

The nine vitamins are water-soluble vitamins. They are used by body when absorbed and leftover are excreted through the urine. Only vitamin B12 (water-soluble vitamin) are stored in the liver for many years.

Vitamin deficiency occurs when we do not eat certain vitamin in required amount. Thus, its deficiency deficiency can cause health problems.
