The electron transport chain is the series of protein complexes that are located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It transfers the electrons from NADH and FADH2 then finally to oxygen. Protons are then pumped from mitochondrial matrix to inter membrane space and oxygen is reduced to form water.
The protein complexes of the electron transport chain transfers electron. As the electron transport chain runs, the concentration gradient of hydrogen ions establishes an electrochemical gradient. ATP synthase is an enzyme that spins like a turbine to generate mechanical energy for making ATP.
