What is the effect of longer IV exposure on serratia maceronas
Replied by Admin
Effect of longer UV exposure on serratia maceronas would kill them by inducing mutations in the genome. UV-radiation causes the formation of thymine-thymine dimers in DNA which interferes with DNA replication. In DNA replication, the enzymes will bond a different base in place of the thymine bases and so result is mutation. As it affects the DNA, and therefore protein synthesis which is entirely dependent on the location of mutations... As Serratia marcescens is a delicate organism, when exposed longer in UV radiation, the organisms dies. Long UV exposure reduces growth of the Serratia marcescenes. Plates with a mask and no lid exposed to UV for 3 sec compared with plates that were exposed to 30 sec.
